Staffing Clerk (part-time, on-call)

John Howard Society of Okanagan & Kootenay has been supporting the vulnerable in the Okanagan community for more than 60 years with programs in community inclusion, restorative justice, shelter, and specialized housing. It is their housing division that is now seeking two regular part-time clerks to coordinate immediate staffing needs across multiple housing facilities in Kelowna.

Housing Services Programs require 24-hr staffing to meet operational requirements. Duties of a Short Call Staffing Clerk will include allocating and calling in relief staff to fill vacancies, utilizing a computerized staffing schedule, updating the schedule accordingly, and keeping related records and documentation. Working from home, this support role is intended to respond to absence notifications outside of regular business hours (Mon-Fri, 4pm-8am), on weekends and holidays.

The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with strong organizational skills and ability to operate a computerized scheduling system. Excellent work ethic, accountability, and regular availability to be on-call 3-4 days a week including nighttime are essential for this remote position.

Additional conditions of employment include full Covid-19 vaccination and clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search. 

Anticipated start date is June/July 2024, with training provided on site upon hire. 

Compensation: Starting wage at $22.97/hr for time worked, with standby pay at $122.51 for 16-hr shift (week days 4pm-8am), and $183.76 for 24-hr shift (on weekends & holidays). This position qualifies for Employee Assistance Program as well as additional training opportunities. 

Although this position is remote, candidates residing in the Kelowna area will be given preference.
