Job description


Under the direction of the Building Operations Director, the Custodial Worker is responsible for ensuring the proper care and cleaning of the program buildings, grounds & property. They provide a clean and safe environment through planning, organizing, coordinating, and performing custodial operations to maintain quality standards. In addition, the Custodial Worker liaises with the Building Operations department regarding building inspections, significant maintenance repairs or site modifications. Additionally, the Custodial Worker is responsible for managing inventory and ordering of maintenance and custodial-related supplies.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Maintain cleanliness, appeal, and working order of the main grounds and program buildings. 
  • Perform minor fixes including replacing light bulbs, painting or repairing broken locks.
  • Complete garden and yard upkeep.
  • Assist with move in/ out inspections and annual inspections.
  • Ensure completion of necessary documentation pertaining to the role. 
  • Report major repairs, property damage or vandalism to the Manager.
  • Perform duties in accordance with operating procedures, health and safety standards, and as directed by the Manager.
  • Assist with special projects.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members and management.


Job requirements

  • High school diploma including math skills.
  • Valid WHMIS or ability to obtain prior to commencing work.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use computers including Word, Excel and Rent Manager software.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems is an asset.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Strong sense of integrity and accountability, attention to detail.
  • Physically capable of lifting and moving objects up to 30 pounds as necessary.
  • Comfortable working with/around persons who may solicit and/or display inappropriate social or physical behaviour including inappropriate language or violence.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism, boundaries, and confidentiality.
  • BC class 5 DL, clean driver’s abstract, use of personal vehicle for business travel around Kelowna.
  • Proof of Covid vaccination (2 doses).
  • Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector search. 

Hours of work: Mon- Fri, 8:30am - 4:30pm, with some on-call and after-hours work to be expected.
