2D Artist

Job description

About Sad Panda Studios

Six years ago, Sad Panda Studios was started by three friends who wanted to build fun and flirty video games. ‘Sad Panda’ is inspired by the face markings of a Red Panda and to show our affection, Sad Panda Studios sponsors the Red Panda exhibit at the Edmonton Valley Zoo and has helped with the construction of a new habitat for the Red Pandas.

Sad Panda specializes in 'anime' dating sims with cheeky humour, snappy dialogue, and 'steamy situations'. We have a particular style that combines heartful relationship scenarios with over-the-top pop-culture-fueled irreverence and risqué 'consummations'.

Crush Crush, our first game, has been played by more than 10 million people, and is available on many different platforms including Steam, Mobile and the Nintendo Switch. To date, we have released two games and are releasing updates featuring new content and gameplay mechanics. We are expanding our portfolio with several games in development and are excited to continue to grow the video game industry in the Okanagan.

We are really proud of the games we make and the people (Pandas) who help make them. All of our Pandas uphold the same quality, creativity, innovation, and integrity that our company was founded on. We are committed to be a professional environment where courtesy, trust, kindness and respect are the norm.

About The Role

We are looking for a motivated 2D Artist to join our team and help us breathe life into our games’ art - in particular, our game Blush Blush. As a 2D Artist, you would be working under our Art Director’s guidance to match the hybrid North American/Anime aesthetic using the vector program Adobe Animate. On top of making illustrations for our games, you would also be creating 2D static assets for Art Books.

The ideal candidate has a good understanding of art (dynamic posing, lighting and staging), 2+ years’ experience with the Adobe Animate (or similar art software), and experience working with vector art. Those who specialize in the anime aesthetic with a keen eye for design and layout will stand out from other candidates.

The 2D Artist must be self-motivated, proactive, open to feedback, committed to improving their skillset, able to contribute ideas and suggestions to improve our games, and able to prioritize workload based on time and quality requirements. Our future artist must also be comfortable working with adult content and be fully competent in both written and spoken English.
